Judges comments:
This is a business based on knowledge and experience and one that has demonstrated
an innovative development of an old Cheshire industry. They have clearly created
a reputation in the market that they exist as a good solid business.


A CREWE-based business is celebrating after winning the Small Business of the Year category, sponsored by Woods Squared Ltd.
Rail Operations Development Ltd (RODL) a solution driven consultancy working within the rail industry. was founded in 2005 by Alan Macdonald and William O’Connor.
The pair have held senior positions within
train and freight operating companies and between them have over 50 years’
experience in the fields of railway operations, safety, project, change and
HR management.
Alan said: “We were totally gobsmacked that we won the award. It was our first attempt at going for an award and we couldn’t believe it when our name was read out.”
He added: “It’s fantastic that we have been recognised especially by an esteemed panel of judges. Everyone is on a high and asking for a pay rise!
“We couldn’t do what we do without a great team. Wendy Bridges the company secretary also deserves a mention because of all the work she has put into helping the company grow.
“We are currently looking to expand as
the rail industry in Crewe is still thriving.”
